A very famous quote goes “Save money. and money will save you”. This is something good to teach children; Saving money is a good habit. Life, in a menacing collaboration with the universe, presents the ordinary human with plenty of situations where he/she is unable to make ends meet. Therefore, children are generally taught to save for rainy days whilst spending on necessities. Now let us now take a look at how the needs of financial education changes. When a young boy, always provided for, transitions into his youth, he is able to step into the workforce, to earn his own income. This may be either to fully support himself or to act as a supplementary income to offset the financial strain on his providers.
However, how does this young man learn to differentiate between unnecessary spending, reasonable spending, overly driven saving, and reasonable saving. These, when desired in different combinations, could cause financial satisfaction, financial dissatisfaction, financial stability & progress, and an array of attitudes towards spending.
Our current day world is a place where being in possession of large amounts of money will place you at a major advantage over those live from pay cheque to pay cheque. However, young adults need to understand that increased amounts of money come with greater expenditure, increased financial reliance, greater taxes, and inability to look at things in a non-financial light.
Money is an essential. However if one starts working too hard to just have money piled up, he wouldn’t even have the time to enjoy his earnings. Therefore, knowing the necessities in each situation and staying rational when budgeting, saving or spending, is key to managing your finances well and staying stable.
Yes, money is attractive, but if earning money is taking time away from important things, cut yourself some slack. Lose a dollar today, Earn a dollar tomorrow; A piece of paper should never represent your happiness.
